Drawn Together

Intergenerational, inclusive art sessions that connect people through creativity

Drawn Together is our gentle, welcoming art programme that brings people of all ages from ages 8+ and abilities into the same creative space.
Led by mouth-painting artist Sarah Barker and guest artists (including disabled, blind and partially sighted creatives), these sessions are all about connection, expression and belonging.

No pressure. No perfection. Just people, art and time together.

What is Drawn Together?

Drawn Together is a series of relaxed, fully accessible art sessions where we explore:

  • Drawing, painting and mark-making
  • Texture, colour and pattern
  • Simple, playful creative techniques
  • Collaborative and individual artwork
  • Storytelling through images rather than words

Every session is paced gently, with plenty of time to chat, experiment and enjoy the process. You don’t need to be “good at art” — if you can make a mark, you’re welcome.

Who is it for?

Drawn Together is designed for mixed-age, mixed-ability groups, including:

  • Disabled adults and young people
  • Older people and those who may be isolated or lonely
  • Carers and family members
  • People living with long-term conditions
  • Community groups and wellbeing projects
  • Anyone who wants a calm, creative space to breathe and connect

We especially welcome those who don’t usually feel represented or comfortable in mainstream art spaces.
This is a space where you can show up exactly as you are.

What happens in a session?

Each session is slightly different, but a typical Drawn Together workshop might include:

  • A warm welcome and simple introductions
  • A short demonstration or inspiration from Sarah or a guest artist
  • Gentle, step-by-step creative activities using accessible materials
  • Options to work individually or in small groups
  • Time to explore texture, colour and mark-making at your own pace
  • Space to pause, chat and share (if you want to)
  • A relaxed, no-judgement atmosphere where there is no wrong way to create

We adapt the activities to suit the people in the room — including seated options, large-grip tools where useful, visual prompts, sensory supports and plenty of one-to-one help from our volunteers.

Why Drawn Together?

Drawn Together is about more than making art. It’s about:

  • Connection – meeting others, sharing space and feeling less alone
  • Confidence – rediscovering your creativity and feeling proud of what you make
  • Wellbeing – taking time out to relax, focus and play

  • Inclusion – being in a room where disability, age and difference are respected and celebrated

  • Representation – learning from disabled artists and creatives with lived experience

  • Art becomes the bridge that brings people together – across generations, backgrounds and abilities.

Accessibility

As a disability-led organisation, accessibility is built into Drawn Together from the start:

  • Step-free, wheelchair-friendly venues where possible
  • Seated and table-based activities
  • Flexible timings and pacing
  • Clear instructions and visual examples
  • Friendly volunteers on hand to support
  • Sensory-aware approach (we can adapt lighting, noise and pace)
  • Space to arrive late, leave early or take breaks if needed

If you or someone you support has specific access needs, you’re always welcome to let us know in advance so we can help you feel comfortable.

For Community Groups, Hubs & Organisations

Drawn Together can be delivered:

  • In community centres, village halls and hubs
