About Us

My name is Sarah Barker, and I’ve been painting by mouth since I was a child. After an accident at 18 months old left me paralysed from the neck down, art became my voice, the way I express emotion, connect with people, and show the world who I am. A brush held between my teeth has taken me on a journey I never expected: from creating vibrant canvases in my home in Cornwall to exhibiting my work, teaching others, and building a creative community I’m incredibly proud of.

Over the years, families, teachers and organisations began reaching out, asking if I could share my creativity with children, disabled young people, parents, schools and community groups. They wanted spaces that felt safe, inclusive and joyful — places where everyone could explore art and movement without fear of judgement or barriers. That spark grew into something far bigger.

That’s how Sarah Barker Art Studios CIC was born.

We’re a disability-led social enterprise with a simple mission: to make creativity accessible to every body. Through inclusive art, movement, music and sensory programmes, we support children, families, adults and disabled people across Cornwall to express themselves freely and feel part of a vibrant, welcoming community.

Our sessions, from Boogie & Brush, Rhythm & Rhyme, and Drawn Together, to school workshops, family events and wellbeing programmes blend colour, energy and connection. Every activity is designed with accessibility at its heart. Seated participation, sensory-friendly options, adapted movement and multi-sensory creativity ensure no one is left out.

I now lead the studio with an amazing team of volunteers, supporters and partners who believe in our mission. Together, we collaborate with schools, nurseries, SEND settings, family hubs, local councils, charities, health services and community organisations to make sure creativity reaches the people who need it most.

Every brushstroke, every beat of music, every shared smile in one of our sessions reminds me why we do this.

We exist to empower.
We exist to include.
We exist to bring people together.
We exist because creativity has no limits and neither should anyone else.

Welcome to Sarah Barker Art Studios CIC.
I’m so glad you’re here.
